ASCLS Meeting Minutes
Aberdeen, Annual Spring Meeting
Noon, May 3, 2007
Lori Murray (Pres.) called
the meeting to order. There were about 30+ members attending. Lori summarized
the Jan. and March BOD meeting minutes and went through the budget.

Fall meeting in Sioux Falls brought in excellent profit for ASCLS-SD.
·
There is a membership focus—we are moving students up to 1st YP and developing a task force to look at membership needs.
·
Nat’l membership and recruitment of new state members has been discussed
at BOD.
·
Nat’l meeting is July 17-22 in San Diego
·
Changes including moving the 3 day meetings of ASCLS-SD to the fall are
posted on the website.
We have budgeted $16,750
revenue with expenditures for leg days, nat’l, scholarships, support back to Region V ($12,000 allocated), publications,
science fairs, membership development.
Awards were presented to
many members for longevity and state/regional/national Omicron Sigma. Deb Pravecek is the member of the year! The two keys
to the future are Shirley Heber and Mary Jo Rohrbach.
Society Report: (refer to

Leadership Academy at Nat’l. The applications are being taken now.
·
Competitive bidding: ASCLS-SD collaborated with CLMA Siouxland on this topic.
Bill Hofer and Lezlee Koch met with SDAHO; SDAHO printed a position paper regarding concerns with competitive bidding.

Legislative Day Report—Deb Piper summarized the main issues from Legislative
Days: educational program support and competitive bidding.
Membership is 131 (right
before the meeting). We stay in this range traditionally. ½ of the 90 registrants to this meeting were non-members. We need
to focus on the value of membership. ASCLS helps with recognition, education, legislative issues, networking. As folks join/renew
to ASCLS-SD Lori would like to send their employer a letter commenting on the member’s commitment to the profession/contributions.
Publications: Our newsletter
website won 1st place for web based newsletter at Nat’l. Lori said that ASCLS-SD is looking for help with
publications and corporate sponsorship for the newsletter.
Region V report (Lezlee):

Lezlee has been traveling to all the states spring meetings.
·
ASCLS is Alive in Region V
·
National membership numbers are up;
over 10,000 members nationally.
·
Nat’l is conducting member and non-member surveys.
·
Leadership Academy: Lezlee wants this to go to the state level.
·

will be strong—Nat’l will be strong.

The next meeting will be
in Rapid City (a 1 day meeting) in Sept. There is a Region V-Tri State meeting in Fargo in October 1-3.
Lori addressed changing the
3 day meetings to the fall. Many are too busy in May and students can’t usually come so ASCLS-SD will be moving the
3 day meeting to fall (Oct). Andrea Schaub will be the chair of the spring 2008 meeting in Chamberlain and is looking for
help.
Lori has slots on the leadership
roster and is looking for volunteers.
