Just going to work and performing your position’s duties is not enough for clinical laboratory professionals today.  The professional world of Clinical Laboratory Science is quickly changing.  How we practice our profession can change overnight!  The changes can come from many sources a few which include regulations,  accrediting agencies, and other professions.  We are currently faced with Medicare Competitive Bidding for Clinical Laboratory Services, Medicare Medically Unlikely Edits, workforce shortages, unannounced accreditation surveys and on the horizon potential changes relating to Pay-For-Performance… to name just a few!

Time is of the essence!  Now more than ever Clinical Laboratory Professionals must be informed of everything that has the potential to impact their practice field and be actively involved in their profession.   Our profession and its professionals have the ability to change challenges into opportunities but it can only be done through structured professional actions.  Success will come to those who are professionally involved.  Professionals who choose not to be involved by sitting back and hoping that someone else is taking action have the potential of living in a professional world of unmanageable crisis and chaos.
